ODI Tri Series Final: Sri Lanka Win Final After India Struggle to Overhaul Hosts

--> -->

This is one victory Sri Lanka will feel mighty proud to have snatched from India because the latter have been getting the best of them. Sri Lanka truly deserved the win for the way they played in the final.

The commanding innings played by Sri Lanka was sadly lacking in the Indian batting innings. Chasing a daunting total of 300, much rested on the in form Virender Sehwag. But Sehwag was living a dangerous life, surviving the first run out attempt but not the first. It pretty much ended how India would chase this total down at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

Glimpses of partnership would not be enough for India to overhaul Sri Lanka's total built on the belligerence of Tillekeratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara. Also proving to be a thorn in the flesh was the much more disciplined bowling from the Sri Lankan team as against the distraught bowling efforts of the Indians.

Fifty run partnership between Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli and another of forty-nine between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina seemed really like efforts in vain because there was no dominance or evenb confidence in the manner in which India attempted to chase down the total.

Left timid by the fall of two early wickets for thirty-eight runs, their consolidation was one of caution over confidence and it set India back in the run rate. The lack of faith was apparent because a team backed by seven batsmen should have taken a more gutsy approach than the one witnessed on the night. Dhoni's highest score of sixty-seven was by far the most positive of knocks in the innings, but it could not prevent India from succumbing to the pressure and the occasion, managing just 225 in forty-six overs as Thissara Perera and Suraj Randiv picked up three wickets apiece. Sri Lanka winning the Tri Series Final by a whopping margin of seventy-four runs.
