Owais Shah produced an unbeaten 55-run blitzkrieg to power England to a five-wicket victory against the West Indies in the second Twenty20 match at the Oval.
After winning the toss, West Indies captain Chris Gayle decided to bat first and the lanky left-hander led from the front by slamming a scintillating 61-run knock to pilot West Indies to a decent total of 169.
Gayle needed just 37 balls for his breezy knock which included eight hits to the fence apart from huge six. Apart from Gayle, Marlon Samuels also contributed 42 to swell the West Indies total past the 150-run mark.
Chasing for a victory, England looked shaky as slumped to 68 for four and a defeat looked imminent, especially after maverick batsman Kevin Pietersen was out for 19.
Shah, however, found an able partner in Dimitri Mascarenhas and the duo stitched together a 69-run partnership off just 36 balls to guide England to victory.
Shah’s sparkling 55 came off 43 balls and he was adjudged Man of the Match for his heroics.
