Pak Aus T1 Day 4: North's Six Nail Pakistan as Australia win at Lord's by 150 Runs

Pakistan's defiance overnight was broken by breaking down Salman Butt as Marcus North had the rare opportunity to spin his way to six wickets as Australia won the first Test at Lord's by 150 runs.

Butt's vigilance was what held the Pakistan innings together despite the fact that Pakistan were chasing history to beat Australia. Butt deserved a century for his efforts but had to settle for ninety-two runs in the end as North began to vindicate the decision of his captain, Ricky Ponting, to give a bigger role to the part time bowler.

Some of Pakistan's choice of shot selections once again left the viewer disappointed because while there were a few promising contributions, none lasted long enough to further delay the inevitable and give themselves a fighting chance. Kamran Akmal's wicket was a case in point as he appeared to have suffered momentarily from a rush of blood. His forty-six was cut short as were the knocks of Azhar Ali's forty-two and Umar Amin's thirty-three.

The end became rather facile as Marcus North cashed in on Pakistan's pressured batting line up who caved in for 289 mid way through day four.
