Pak v NZ ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Preview: Pak Hope to Improve, NZ to Upset

Pakistan will face a test of sorts against New Zealand in their clash on Tuesday in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. However, New Zealand are hoping the results will be very different from the last time these two teams met.

Pakistan won the ODI series in New Zealand before beginning their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. New Zealand, on the other hand, have had a horrendous run into the World Cup and some of those problems surfaced when they took on Australia.

On the other hand, Pakistan have been able to slide through, even when their batting has shown a few chinks in the armour. Their victory against Sri Lanka would have given them a tremendous boost, although they have been really dependent on the senior cricketers in Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan captain, Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan.

Depending on how motivated and integrated New Zealand are for the contest, Pakistan will have another test of their ability and their bid to getting the batting working to absolute success. Presently the Pakistan captain is a bigger threat with the ball than the bat, but he will want that the team like him should be able to lift their batting efforts at the top rather than always rely on the middle order for a bail out.

In that sense, New Zealand could be the perfect test for Pakistan. Although it may seem unkind on New Zealand, they are yet to show the wherewithal to change that opinion over the last six months in the big build up. On that basis, one would have to say that this is Pakistan's for the taking, unless they manage to mess it up. The underdogs position should fit nicely into New Zealand's plans for a surprise upset, if they can manage it.
