Pakistan Suggest Butt, Aamer and Asif Could Come into World Cup if Acquitted in Spotfixing

There is little doubt that on talent Pakistan would want the trio amidst their squad. And it would appear by what Pakistan has to say that it may not be late.

It may not be all over the Pakistan trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif after all. Or claim the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Although by mandatory terms, the Pakistan World Cup squad had to be announced, there was no way they could have made provision for the trio in the preliminary squad of thirty or in the final squad of fifteen because the trio are currently facing a hearing over spot fixing allegations from the Lord's Test on Pakistan's tour of England mid last year.

While the ICC anti corruption tribunal had deferred the decision to the 5th of February, with less than two weeks for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to get underway, the Pakistan Cricket Board has today suggested that the three Pakistan cricketers could come back into reckoning if they are acquitted of the charges.

And the Pakistan Cricket Board is claiming that this is not their contention alone, but something that the ICC has committed to if the three cricketers go scot free. What is interesting is that the three cricketers are being individually assessed and many in Pakistan cricket circles are hoping that the eighteen year old Aamer at least comes out clean because he is considered Pakistan's future and one of the brightest stars and it has been a blow to lose him. However, a lot remains to be seen because the charges are in themselves rather serious and while Pakistan will continue to hope, it would be wise to train with the fifteen at their disposal at least until the outcome.
