Ejaz Butt, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, is hoping to use the opportunity of the Asia Cup 2010 to prevail from the officials from the BCCI the importance and relevance of India renewing its ties with Pakistan on the cricket field.

The India-Pakistan match scheduled for tomorrow is expected to be the highlight of the Asian tournament. However, the PCB chairman is hoping that this will become a regular feature than a one off in a multi team event.

The ties between the two nations were strained following the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai and the terrrorist act put paid to India's tour of Pakistan as well as Pakistan cricketers playing on Indian soil through the IPL.

Indo Pak matches tend to draw the highest number of spectators both, at the ground and for television viewing, and the lack of such bilateral series has affected the Pakistan baord's revenues rather badly, not to mention setting a trend of mistrust about hosting tours in Pakistan.

Butt spoke on the sidelines of the ongoing Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the Asian Cricket Council meet, "Cricketing ties between the two countries are very important for the game and it would be my priority during my tour to Sri Lanka to discuss the issue. I'll be speaking to the BCCI officials to convince them to revive Pakistan-India cricket series.

"It is unfortunate that we are not playing more often against each other because people in the subcontinent and in many parts of the world want to cricket action between the two teams. This rivalry has always been a treat for cricket fans all over the world and it must be revived."
