Controversial paceman Shoaib Akhtar has been recalled into the Pakistan squad for the final deciding one-dayer between the Proteas and for the upcoming Pakistan’s tour to India. Popularly known as the Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar was imposed a 13 match ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) ahead of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa earlier in September, after he struck fellow paceman Mohammad Asif with a bat during a brawl.
Now after completing a 13 match ban and having been fined 28,000 pounds for breaching four codes of conduct, the selectors have recalled Shoaib Akhtar keeping in mind the pressure series against arch rivals India. The Chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed said,
We have chose a 16 man-squad which will be lef by Shoaib Malik and Akhtar is included in the squad after he proved his fitness and completed his ban. He remains a key player and will boost the pace attack for the Indian tour. For the one-dayers we believe we have picked the most balanced outfit and the presence of Shoaib and Asif will make out bowling dependable.
Shoaib Akhtar made his way back after the paceman bowled 17 overs in a side match last week. The paceman was also on probation for two years previously which indicated any further violation of PCB’s Code of Conduct can send him packing for life.
Though Shoaib Akhtar’s form and fitness is of alight concern for Pakistan, his inclusion in the squad will earn them a mental edge against India. Arch rivals India vs Pakistan includes five one day internationals followed by three test matches. A contest between the two nations is all about more than just the game. The Indian cricket fanatics will be fond glued to their television sets during this home tour. Many would be aware of the on field battle between Shoaib Akhtar and the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. All eyes will be set on the two and the upcoming Pakistan tour to India will make or break lives of many players. As for the PCB they will be glad that Akhtar’s ban completes when the team needs his pace, talent and skill the most. It is all in the mind, the team who wins the metal battle will see through victorious. Looks like PCB has made their first move by recalling Shoaib Akhtar, only time will witness which mental moves proves to be successful for either the host or the visiting team
