The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the appointment of an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal by the Chair of the ICC’s Code of Conduct Commission, Mr Michael Beloff QC, to ascertain the alleged breaches committed by the trio Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif over spot fixing on Pakistan's tour of England.

January 6-10th, 2011 has been set aside in Doha, Qatar when the the three-person tribunal of Mr Beloff QC (as Chair), Justice Albie Sachs from South Africa and Sharad Rao from Kenya will preside over the hearing.

It appears there will be no immediate clearance for the three cricketers who will now have to await their turn. Asif has incidentally yet to appeal given that he had withdrawn from it earlier citing time for his laywers to fight the case.

The PCB has also suspended the trio's central contracts and it will mean that until their names are cleared by the ICC, no play for them is possible. While an affirmative response in the matter is awaited, the judgement is critical given the recent scenario surrounding another Pakistan cricketer, Zulqarnain Haider, as the Pakistan wicket keeper fled from Dubai to England citing harrassment and death threats from bookies.
