Sharad Pawar assumed office under rather difficult circumstances but he refuses to be cowed down by the comments. Pawar denied that Howard’s nomination was anything other than want of a majority, “The majority did not support him," he said. "Ultimately in any democratic organisation, there has to be support from the majority but that was not there in his case." He denied that the Asia-African bloc would the reason behind the predicament of the former Australian Prime Minister.

Pawar also denied that holding the ICC post was too much trouble for him. He stated that since the ICC meetings were usually held on the weekends in Dubai, he did not feel that the commute would be trouble, being just a two hour plan ride.

Pawar also told waiting newspersons that he had requested the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to provide him with additional ministers under his role as the Union Minister of Agriculture so that he may delegate his work better, “I will discuss with the prime minister about my responsibilities and will take appropriate decision so that my government work is not affected. I may suggest having more hands to help me. I had asked for three ministers but they have given me only one. If I request to reduce some of my work, we may find some solution. I won't allow my work in the government to suffer."
