It was scares, but if it all was; he was the man to linger out of it - Kevin Pietersen one rare exceptional performer for England in the humiliating Ashes defeat.
Pietersen is England’s lone hope when it boils down to salvaging pride down under - But those hopes were dealt a severe blow, he was hit in his ribs by a high rising delivery from Glenn McGrath when he charged him down the track in the first ODI of the triangular series.
Pietersen had scored 73 before he misread a delivery form McGrath and was down with excruciating pain; he failed to regain flow and was dismissed for 82 before being rushed to the hospital. England managed a respectable 242/8, while Peterson was made unavailable for the second innings (when Australia Bat).
Australians curtsy their charismatic striker Gilchrist have got off to a flyer; they are 113-2 from 19. The host’s are well poised for a victory in their first outing.
How brutal is the injury to Pietersen? Is not yet confirmed, however if the injury gets series then that will be it for any English hope and, yet another increment to their injury woes.
UPDATE:
Australia imparts yet another humiliating defeat to England - Aussies win the first ODI by eight wickets, chasing down the England total of 242 in just 45.2 overs.
