Even as a majority of Pakistan cricket fans welcomed their team home after their ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 run, a petition has been filed about the possibility of match fixing on the part of the Pakistan cricket team, without enough substantial evidence to support those claims.

It would appear that the comments of the Pakistan Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, have stirred the imaginations of a few people sore about Pakistan's loss to India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final in Mohali.
A petition has been reported filed by a gentleman who goes by the name of Azhar Siddiq in the Lahore High Court alleging that the Pakistan cricket team was involved in match fixing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final in order to promote the thawing of cricket and diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan.
The India v Pakistan ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final was an emotionally charged, high affair that brought together dignitaries together on Indian soil for the crucial match, watched together side by side by the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the Pakistan Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Now the petitioner stretches the story when he feels that the phone calls of the Pakistan cricketers should be investigated for a possible conversation between Malik and the Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi.
If the comments were considered ill timed by Malik, this petition is perhaps indicative of the emotions running through fans across borders that can result in such extreme reactions. Unsubstantiated, these allegations do a great damage to the reputation of the cricketers, sending across fear and also, draw question marks on the integrity of the game. But given the high profile status of the match, the cricketers must be aware of what to expect when they happen to be on the losing side.
