In a pointed observation, one concern is emerging predominantly on the minds of the franchisees - player availability.

The franchisees have been echoing one view - the issue of player availability. Even as the IPL Commissioner, Lalit Modi, believed that the third year was only beginning to show a rise in the learning curve, the franchisees are learning from their mistakes of investing huge amounts of money on players that are not even available for an entire season. There are teams that have been particularly burnt by signing on the Australians, such as the Ness Wadia- Preity Zinta owned Kings XI Punjab.
Not wanting to be forced to pay out for players that are not available and Modi stating that he did not want the franchisees to be held for ransom.
It appears unless players can make themselves available for an entire season, they may find it tough to find a spot in 2010. Will that mean more player retirements for a fat pay cheque?
