Shaun Pollock is a better-known bowling all-rounder in the contemporary cricket. His performance proves it. But, he made a surprising decision before the start of the Afro-Asia Cup three match cricket series. He publicly announced that he would not bowl in the series. Why did he take such a brave decision?

Being a batsman, he should have opted to bat in the upper order. But he did not. He preferred his usual position i.e. after five downs. Wasn't it a self-imposed challenge for Pollock?

The Asia XI was struggling from very beginning chasing the mammoth total of 318. Pollock observed wickets stumbling at regular intervals in the first 25 overs. He prepared his batting strategy to face the composed bowling attack of Asia XI at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

He came at number 7 when the game was completely dominated by host Asia claiming 66 for 6. Paring with Elton Chigumbura of Zimbabwe, the veteran all-rounder led his fight.

Playing in an attacking-fashion, Pollock made an excellent 130, in 110 balls with 19 fours and a six, before departing as the last man. It was Pollock's maiden century. Although, he could not rescue his team from the defeat, it was really a personal victory for Pollock.
