Australia's Ricky Ponting couldn't have asked for much more as he was named ICC Player of the year for the second year in a row and also bagged the Captain's award. Rightly so, as Ponting's performance both as a player and captain has been quiet exceptional. His outstanding efforts with the bat plus a 5-0 Ashes whitewash and the World Cup haul clearly states his award supremacy at Johannesburg.

On a winning note Ponting remarked:

It's more of an eventful night that I thought it would be and I am honoured. It's a great thrill for me and something I am very proud of. It's a great achievement and something I will probably look back on this in years to come with a lot of pride. I am the first player to win this award twice in a row and maybe if I keep my head down there might be more around the corner.

It also remains to be seen that Mohammad Yousuf who earned the Test Player of the year would possibly make a final honor as a Pakistan cricketer, whose international career is at stake after signing up for the ICL. Yousuf faced a stiff competition against Muttiah Muralitharan, Kevin Pietersen and Ricky Ponting in the nomination line-up.

The prolific World Cup for Matthew Hayden in the Caribbean, earlier this year rewarded him the ODI Player of the year. Fellow Australian, Shaun Tait, won the Emerging Player. Thomas Odoyo, the Kenyan allrounder, carried away a new award for 2007, the Associate Player. Simon Taufel picked up the Umpire of the Year award for the fourth straight year.

Indian allrounder Jhulan Goswami won the Women Cricketer of the Year which infact has been a sigh of relief for the Indian cricket and clearly shows where the Indian cricketers stand over the past one year at the international arena. Apart from Sachin Tendulkar who was placed in the ICC ODI Team, Zaheer Khan was the twelth man to be included in the Test version. Indian fellow sub-continent Sri Lanka having a fair amount of success won them the Spirit of Cricket award.
