Ponting Faces Music at Home for His 'Bat First' Rigidity on Green Top SCG; Hussey Included

The Australian captain wears a crown of thorns as his decision has come under attack from former Australian cricketers, fans and even his own team mate, Michael Hussey!

Ricky Ponting chose to bat first on what was considered one of the greenest pitches ever seen at the SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground). That decision in the second Test against Pakistan can come to haunt the Australian captain should Pakistan continue to build momentum on the third day and extract a win out of this favourable situation.

But the Australian captain need not wait for the verdict. The views are coming in and they are surely not pretty. Many have attributed the captain's decision to his rigid thinking, suggesting his fears of what happened at Edgbaston in 2005 during the Ashes continue to live in his mind.

Others such as Geoff Lawson and Michael Slater are stunned by what they saw as were some of the former Australian cricketers who wondered what prompted the decision despite seeing such a green pitch.

Many fans have also spoken about it/blogged and left suggestions about what they thought of the captain's decision which gave Pakistan the decisive edge. The Pakistan captain, Mohammad Yousuf, was also not being sympathetic of his Australian counterpart, suggesting he would have indeed bowled first had he won the toss.

Ponting's one blunder could prove very costly and while he has stated that his team mates were in agreement of his decision, Michael Hussey let loose a little dribble with his statement to the media that the decision only proved that Ponting would never win a toss and decide to bowl first.
