Ponting, Hussey Wary of Split Innings Proposal for ODIs by Cricket Australia

While Cricket Australia is going gaga over the initiative to trial a forty overs a side game in a split twenty over version for the ODIs, the Australian captain is not quite as thrilled and neither was Michael Hussey.

First it was Michael Hussey, the Australian batsman, who was not too keen on changing the format of the one day game at the domestic level, stating like some of the England cricketers, that the format did not really help the players prepare for the international one day games which continue in the traditional fifty over format including into the World Cup.

Now the Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, is hoping that the cautious road would be tread because he thought the idea of the Channel Nine network to have each innings begin with the team having all ten wickets in hand as opposed to carrying forward the wickets from the first twenty overs was "not cricket."

He is hoping that the essence of the game is still retained because in the popular criticism, there is a case for two Twenty20 games being played instead of one ODI which is what has raised queries about changing the one day game so drastically.

Earlier even the players association in Australia promised to review the proposal and put forth their concerns before the Cricket Australia board since the idea is to bring about these changes as early as the next season.
