Ricky Ponting tried his best to play down the match fixing allegations that rocked Pakistan cricket following the Sydney Test.

Ponting chose to ignore the allegations without evidence, “There's no doubt it damages their reputation, but I think so far a lot of it's all unfounded.”
The Australian captain could empathize with Pakistan’s predicament, “Unfortunately for the Pakistan team it seems like every time they lose a game there's always those sort of allegations that come out.”
Ponting also made it clear that he wanted to steer clear of those allegations for specific reasons, “I haven't wanted to believe any of it or think anything about it because it actually takes away how good a win it was from us, if any of that stuff did actually happen.”
The ICC gave a clean chit to the Pakistan cricketers over the crucial Test.
