It appears Ricky Ponting may actually be enjoying the break from the IPL. It gives me the opportunity to indirectly test theories without actually getting caught up in its midst.

Ponting did not dismiss John Buchanan's multiple captain theory like Dilip Vengsarkar did by calling it a "mockery". On the contrary, he is game for the move (but he will not be playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders this year citing a heavy Australian cricket schedule and lack of rest).
Ponting believes that the experiment in Tasmania worked enough to suggest there is room for at least giving it a try, while he also stated he understood why Sourav Ganguly was touchy about the issue of captaincy.
Much brouhaha was made after John Buchanan and Sourav Ganguly held a joint press conference, but there were no common points between them beyond that.
With all the distraction of the IPL being staged in South Africa, Ponting will have a harder time with his own captaincy, keeping players away from the madness of the Twenty20 extravaganza and focussing on the Australian efforts to regain the number one spot in the ICC ODI rankings from South Africa.
