The Australian captain has realized that Australia may have missed an ounce of pace after losing the NatWest Series. It is the reason why Shaun Tait has impressed him immeasurably.

Ricky Ponting did not deny that he would be talking to Tait about the possibility of resuming his Test career. Tait’s “firepower and wicket taking ability” have impressed Ponting enough for him to want to convince the fast bowler to reconsider his decision not to play Test cricket.
Shaun Tait, it may be remembered, broke down, and did not play a Test since 2008 when he shied away from international cricket citing “mental and physical exhaustion”. Tait seems to have come to terms to playing T20s and now ODIs to keep his cricket ambitions up.
