Currently languishing at the fifth place in the County Championship Division Two, Middlesex found itself in further trouble with newly appointed coach Richard Pybus quitting the job citing personal reasons.
Middlesex management said in a statement
Due to personal reasons, Richard Pybus has asked to be released from his contract as 1st team coach with immediate effect. The club has agreed to this request. John Emburey, Director of Cricket, will assume 1st team coaching duties.
Pybus, who also coached the Pakistan cricket team in the past, had joined the county in April with a three-year contract. Club authorities had no other option but to bring back John Emburey, Pybus’ predecessor, to help the side improve its position in County Championship.
Emburey, the Director of Cricket at Middlesex, was in the race to be the Team India coach before the Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI) rejected him.
Emburey had coached the club last year when the side was relegated from Division One. A desperate Middlesex then lured in Pybus from South African team Titans to stem the slide but even that effort came to nought with Pybus’ resignation.
