I would like to give some light to my previous post on Dean Jones controversial comment on South African player Hashim Amla.
Dean Jones has been sacked as TV commentator. It is a remarkable step. For the act of stupidity, he got the punishment although not so rigorous.
As the ICC moves door to door to make the game popular throughout world, the incident like this cannot but prepare ground for mass agitation.
Racial stereotyping is dominating international cricket. It is the clear-cut message from Dean Jones.
In an Indian Express Column, Mini Kapoor said,
Dean Jones’s ’slip’ reveals the increasing gap between those playing the game and those pulling the strings. It shows that racism persists not just in contact sports like football. It also confirms the changes being wrought in cricket as it is sought to be globalised by national boards, the ICC and content providers - to make it attractive at ever more offshore venues (India versus West Indies in the US, anyone?) by isolating its entertainment quotient.
