Former Sri Lankan captain and administrator, Arjuna Ranatunga, launched into a tirade against Lalit Modi, blaming him for India's poor performance in the Twenty20 tournaments.

Ranatunga believes Modi has ushered in an era that only believes in making money and has no value for wearing the national cap.
His words to be published in a popular international cricket magazine quotes him as saying, "India lost the Twenty20 World Cup thanks to Lalit Modi. No one else. Lalit Modi and his IPL. When I was playing, there were players who always wanted to achieve something for their country – we used to play for our clubs for no money."
Modi is the IPL Chairman and Commissioner, and India failed to defend their title in the ICC World Twenty20 in England with any bit of dignity.
Ranatunga added, "a lot of unwanted people have started getting involved with the game, especially in Twenty20 events."
"They will come in with Twenty20, they will burn money with Twenty20, then they will vanish," lamented the former Sri Lankan captain under whom Sri Lanka won the 1996 World Cup in the Indian sub continent.
