There has been much haranguing of two different captains for the Tests and the one day internationals. But this will be a first if it comes about, at least that is what the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the IPL team, are hinting.

Firstly it was franchisee owner, Vijay Mallya, nearly spilling his beans (or his mind) when he stated after pouching Kevin Pietersen for a little more than a half a million dollars that the captaincy was an option with obvious reference to KP.
However, one wondered how this England player could become a captain, not just after the fiasco in England over his own captaincy of the England team, but also by a pertinent fact that he would not be available for more than three weeks while the IPL was scheduled to proceed for over six.

Now Ray Jennings, the coach who replaced Martin Crowe in his role as the chief cricket officer, has hinted that Pietersen’s brilliant mind could be picked by naming him skipper for the first half of the duration of the second season of the IPL when he would be available and then, handing the reins back to Rahul Dravid. His logic is that the early period of his captaincy being a honey moon phase, the languishing team from the first year could see a turn of fortunes like England briefly did.
But has anyone given a thought, what will it do to the team who will get mixed signals and more importantly, what is it doing to the icon player in Dravid, who still scored the most runs for the team last year? Murky appears sometimes the mess in the stables.
