Paul Reiffel debuted for Australia in 1991-’92 and went onto become one of the premier fast bowlers for the country. He even earned the nickname “Pistol” but it appears the only shooting he will be doing is with his finger.

After retiring from all forms of cricket, including his state team Victoria, in 2002, Reiffel quickly transformed his role to become an umpire and was seen in action in his first Test as a television umpire in the first Test between Australia and South Africa in Perth in the ongoing tour.

Now as he officiates in his first Twenty20 match, he must find it a little strange when he watches Australia’s favourite team to try and mincemeat psychologically and he cannot even chirp in!
