South Africa handed Australia their worst defeat yet in the five one day series and Ricky Ponting is certainly feeling the heat.

South Africa thumped Australia by a comprehensive eight wicket victory in Adelaide on Monday, also celebrated as Australia Day. But there was no celebration in the Australian dressing room that once again lost their way after their skipper cut a lone figure with sixty-three. Yet again Australia’s seemingly unbridled reins were pulled back by South African skipper Johan Botha as Australia slipped from two for 110 to six down for 150 and sinking further to end up being bowled two overs short of their allotted fifty overs.
With a modest target of 223 to chase, Hashim Amla validated his selection with a noteworthy eighty with a fifty-eight run decisive partnership with Herschelle Gibbs who appeared in a rich vein even in his brief knock of thirty-eight. Australia failed to peg the South Africans early despite James Hopes picking Jacques Kallis early.
With a strong partnership between AB de Villiers and Amla, there was only going to be one result. The ignominious defeat saw not only a near 150 run partnership between the duo but also, South Africa cruising to victory in a ball over thirty-eight overs, to take the series victory by a 3-1 margin with a dead rubber now in the final match on Friday.
