SA WI T3 Days 3 & 4: Prince, SA Bowlers Set up Facile Win for Series

South Africa wrapped up the third Test to win the series 2-0 with a collective effort that would haev impressed others, if they were watching. For West Indies, it was another day for the ostrich to stick its head in the ground.

Ashwell Prince continued on even when AB de Villiers fell. And seventy-eight runs and South Africa's first innings fighting total of 346 in reply to West Indies' first innings score of 231 was enough to put the hosts under considerable pressur.e

The will to fight had virtually died as the West Indies put up yet another batting display that did little to convince their cricket fans that they were in the upper side of the learning curve. The pressure of having conceded a lead of 115 runs seemed to have been enough to throw in the towel.

It did not help that the South African bowlers were bowling at full steam, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel showing off three wickets apiece for their efforts while Johan Botha matching things rather nicely. At six for seventy-five, the fat lady was ready to sing. The only thing keeping her waiting was Shivnarine Chanderpaul's grit in the face of despondence.

But Chanderpaul's seventy-one runs were just about enough to avoid humiliation for the host of an innings defeat and enough of an exercise to make South Africa bat again.

Needing merely forty-seven runs for a 2-0 series in the three Test series, South Africa made it look easy despite the fact that Kemar Roach was looking to spice things up a bit, perhaps only too spicy as he and Jacques Kallis exchanged a few heated moments, enough to end the series on a testy note.
