Twenty-four hours after the news broke of a sting operation revolving around Pakistan cricketers, Salman Butt has refused to step down from the Pakistan captaincy, claiming the allegatiosn are baseless.

At the end of the post match press conference, the Pakistan captain was grilled by the media over evidence that Pakistan cricketers had been involved in spot fixing in the course of the fourth Test of the England Pakistan Test series at Lord's.
However, he remained defiant that there was no wrong doing on his part or that of his team, and in fact that his team had given a 100 per cent, "These are just allegations. Anybody can stand up and say things about you – it doesn't make them true. They include quite a few people. They are still ongoing, and we will see what happens. There is nothing I have seen, or been shown, that involves me."
On the subject of whether he would step down from the captaincy in the wake of the allegations, "Pakistan have won a Test match from Australia after 15 years (of not winning one) and from England after nine years – so does that mean I should resign from this current situation?"
