Virender Sehwag's prolonged form slump saw him being dropped from the Test squad and also lose his vice captaincy. But the Delhi swashbuckler seems to be back in favour again with Venkatapathy Raju, one of the selectors, announcing that the dashing opener would lead the Indian team in the ODIs against Bangladesh in case regular captain Rahul Dravid sits out because of a nose injury.

The team think-tank, however, was not ready to delve into these ifs-and-buts when boarding the flight to Dhaka.

Cricket manager Ravi Shastri said

He (Dravid) is fit and he will play. We will take care to those ifs if it comes in the way but right now we are all ready. There will be no problems because we are ready and we know who should do the job and who should not do the job.

Though Sehwag must be happy with the developments but the opener is struggling to retain his place in the ODI squad and is keen to regain his Test berth as well. But what actually goes in his favour is his experience and seniority.

There are, however, some others who are not willing to attach much importance to seniority. India's lone World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev believes performance, not seniority, is what should be counted.

Kapil said

It is not about the senior or the junior players in a team. The most important thing when you are playing for your country is that, you have to do well for your country and it is not about individuals.

Though a fit-looking Dravid may play right from the first ODI, it would be interesting to see Sehwag lead from the front.
