The Pakistan captain has found many reasons or rather people, including himself, to blame for the predicament that Pakistan find themselves in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean as defending champions.

With just one Super Eights match left against South Africa - a match of extreme relevance to both teams - Shahid Afridi is struggling to pinpoint the exact reason why the team appears to be struggling to maintain consistency in this edition of the tournament, "We are coming out from a very difficult time after the New Zealand and Australia tours. The selection committee picks the team for us and first they announce the team before naming the captain and coach. To do well in Twenty20 cricket, we need to have some good Twenty20 players in the side."

Afridi hinted at expectation that selection policy would change going into the future so that the captain has play a bigger role in team selection, "Maybe in the future we can all sit together and pick a good bunch of guys. Hopefully, in the future this will all change."

Afridi blamed the mental attitude of some of the cricketers replacing those senior Pakistan cricketers that are missing mostly through punishments handed out by the Pakistan Cricket Board ( PCB ), "The players are trying their best but I can't explain why the team is not winning games. Maybe, the new boys in the side lack mental strength. To finish close games, I think we need to be mentally strong."

He did not cut himself from the blame game either, "I am not performing that well, so I feel that is one reason why the result is not coming. My performance is always key to team's good showing."

One may recall that Afridi played a brilliant all rounder role during the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England during the semi final against South Africa and the final against Sri Lanka.
