Shahid Afridi may have led Pakistan to success over the West Indies in the ODI series. But it has not been enough to retain him as the Pakistan ODI captain. Did it have something to do with the controversies that swirled around him?

Shahid Afridi has been the Pakistan ODI and Twenty20 captain for a year now. But it appears that Pakistan's cricket fortunes have caught up with him, which is basically to say that the mercurial all rounder has had a fall out with the Pakistan coach and the Pakistan Cricket Board and is paying for it in the form of losing the ODI captaincy.

Shahid Afridi returned from the Caribbean to Pakistan amidst rumours that there was a gap brewing between him and the Pakistan coach, Waqar Younis, on the subject of team selection. In fact, Afridi landed in Pakistan, giving fuel to the rumours when he sent forth the message that people should stick to the job they are given, thereby, landing himself with double trouble.

Misbah ul Haq, the present Pakistan Test captain, has now been handed the reins although he has only been appointed at the Pakistan ODI captain for the ODI series against Ireland at the end of May. It is still unclear if the PCB decides to keep Misbah on as captain or will look for a new one following that ODI series.

Interesting Misbah was considered aged and out of form as far as the short form was considered and even overlooked in the past as a player to the point where Misbah once openly spoke about how he wanted to destroy his own cricket equipment out of anger.

As if his troubles with the coach were not enough, Afridi transgressed orders from the PCB that he should not been discussing internal matters with the media. His similar previous misdeeds were not overlooked and it appears that in light of the environment and Afridi's indiscretions, the Pakistan Cricket Board decided to demote him from the captaincy post as manner to let him know the consequences of opening his mouth where the PCB would not have liked.
