Pakistan's Twenty20 captain is hailing the punishments meted out by the Pakistan Cricket Board and has only words of praise for the direction in which Pakistan cricket is heading.

Shahid Afridi was put on a six month probation and fined to the tune of Rs.3 million for ball tampering on Pakistan's tour of Australia. But he was not the only man found guilty by the PCB. Bans were handed out to Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, Shoaib Mallik and Rana Naved ul Hasan while Kamran Akmal and his brother, Umar Akmal, were fined heavily for misconduct on tour.

But Afridi believes that the PCB was a "step in the right direction". He believes that the board must have evidence which is why it has found fault with the named cricketers and feels that it sends the right message to all cricketers.

Afridi even stated that he has enjoyed his time away from the IPL, and gelled with the Pakistan squad for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean, and says this is the perfect opportunity to give Pakistan a good name.

Interesting to note here that Afridi had actually appealed against the fine, and paved the way for Rana Naved ul Hasan, the Akmal brothers as well as Shoaib Mallik to file separate appeals asking the PCB to explain the reasoning behind their respective punishments.
