The formal announcement is yet to be made. Yet it appears there is more to the story of Shahid Afridi doing an about turn after wanting to retire from Test cricket as captaincy beckons.

Even as news swirled and Afridi himself indicated that he wanted to hang up his boots permanently as far as the Test team was concerned, it took less than twenty-four hours for Pakistan's Twenty20 captain to gear himself for a full fledged tour of England.
Word has it that Afridi was asked to reconsider his decision with the view that he could be the man captaining Pakistan across all formats - Tests, ODIs, and Twenty20s for Pakistan.
The move perhaps also signifies that the Pakistan Cricket Board ( PCB ) has perhaps run out of options after having made redundant several members of the Pakistan squad that toured Australia earlier in the year.
Wonder how Hampshire will deal with the situation given that they had signed up Afridi thinking he would not feature in the Test series.
