After getting a reprieve having joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL), Shane Bond has decided after the series against Pakistan that he is done playing Test cricket for New Zealand.

In a decision that comes as double blow for New Zealand in that Iain O'Brien announced his retirement at the end of the series against Pakistan, Shane Bond has stated that he is calling it quits in the Test format of the game although he hopes to contribute in the shorter versions of the game.

Bond made the announcement stating that he felt his body could no longer hold up in a Test match lasting five days. Bond felt he had tried his best and felt that he had prepared himself well over the last two years but then, another injury - an abdominal muscle tear during the Test series against Pakistan - had caused him to rethink about his participation in the format he called the "ultimate format of the game".

It is a difficult decision for him no doubt as it would pose new problems for Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain, who has tried to make the best of the resources available to him. Now he will once again have to cope with a void, and it is up to the likes of Tim Southee to step to the game.
