It would be a miracle if Shoaib Akhtar doesn’t make it to the headlines when there is a major tournament. Be it for his fastest ball or his doping escapades, Shoaib makes sure that he hogs the limelight for a variety of reasons. This time, the ‘bad side’ of the Rawalpindi Express has surfaced once again. After being sidelined for over a year due to indiscipline, insubordination and illegitimate activity, Shoaib finally had an opportunity to redeem himself. And guess what, he has blown it again.
Apparently, Shoaib and Mohammed Asif, another supremely talented quickie in the Pakistani team, had a spat in the dressing room. The heated verbal exchange later turned to physical abuse as Shoaib picked up a bat and struck Asif with it. Inadvertent though it may appear, it certainly was enough reason for the PCB to punish him for the umpteenth time. He has been banned for 5 matches and if media sources are to be believed, Pakistan might lose its star bowler for ever as PCB is considering a life ban. Quite a possibility since PCB has matters of greater concern at hand than deciding how to punish its wanton cricketers.
Shoaib has had a history of reckless behavior due to his bad temper and self-proclaimed greatness. And boy.. does he have the guts to compare his ‘bad boy’ behavior with Zinedine Zidane, a true soccer genius! Moreover, he has forgotten cricket is a gentleman’s game, while football is for the footloose and the zany. And since Shoaib knows his sunset is nearing, he has apologized for his ‘two-minute’ temper and has appealed to the press not to make a ‘villain’ out of him. But is anybody listening?? This is not the first time Shoaib!!...
