Ehsan Mani

The International Cricket Council was under sharp criticism ever since it has granted test status to Bangladesh. It seems like that the voice of the critics are dominating with former ICC chief Ehsan Mani’s acceptance that giving Test status to Bangladesh was a blunder.

Here I have question: should ICC scrap test status from Bangladesh?

Bangladesh was declared as a test-playing nation in the year 2000 with their debut test against India in Dhaka. It was felt that the team had the potentiality to challenge the top teams. However, it remained as a distant dream.

The team has lost 31 of its first 34 tests including a record of losing straight 21 games. That duvious distinction made the criticism sharper. They experienced their first victory in their 35th test against Zimbabwe in Chittagong.

Nevertheless, we should not forget the fact that once New Zealand was in the same stage, struggling to claim their first victory. They took years to win a test match. Now they are in a commanding position. Can same thing happen with Bangladesh, which is trying to avoid the jinks of being the third class team? It should come up to the exception before ICC to take any bold decision on them.
