Thilan Samaraweera became the oldest cricketer to score his maiden ODI century. But more importantly, he dug Sri Lanka out of trouble.

The R. Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka saw a terrific fight back led by Samaraweera with Angelo Matthews forging a partnership with his own half century.
Sri Lanka found themselves in a heap of trouble, three down in less than ten overs. The fight thereafter was painful, slow and not promising.
However, Samaraweera stuck through, put his nose to the grindstone and with fanfare, pulled Sri Lanka out of a mire. The action though came after Sri Lanka lost captain, Kumar Sangakkara to a mistimes shot off Ian Butler and the New Zealand captain, Daniel Vettori accounted for Kandamby, leaving Sri Lanka at five down 69 at the half way mark.
The next half of Sri Lanka's innings saw Samaraweera standing for the team alone and then, raising a fine century that not only marked a personal milestone but also, gave Sri Lanka a fighting total 216 of to defend, strengthened by flattering statistics that teams that bat first win matches here.
