SL NZ Ind Tri Series ODI 1 Early Update: SL in Trouble Early

New Zealand were counting on the men returning to the field to give them the zip they felt they lacked in the Test series. And it showed why as in a flash of an half hour, Sri Lanka lost their top three batsmen, thanks to Daryll Tuffey and Shane Bond at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Sri Lanka suffered the loss of two wickets in the first two overs of the first ODI of the tri series. Daryll Tuffey picked up the wicket of the dynamic Tillekeratne Dilshan and Shane Bond came back to prize out two more for New Zealand and to the delight of Daniel Vettori.

Tuffey and Bond had broken links with the New Zealand team rather reluctantly after signing contracts with the ICL. Now becoming available again, they are showing why Vettori, the New Zealand captain, rates them so highly.

Shane Bond sent the former Sri Lankan captain, Mahela Jayawardene, packing for naught in only the second over of the match and then, left Sri Lanka even more weak by taking out the out-of-form Sanath Jayasuriya for 7 runs and Sri Lankan only progressing from two down for five to three down for twenty-two in 7.4 overs.
