Sourav Ganguly Finally Makes IPL 4 Debut for Pune Warriors; Garners Interest for IPL

The big news coming out of the IPL 4 thus far has been of the late signing of Sourav Ganguly. Likewise, Ganguly's debut in the IPL 4 season for the Pune Warriors against the Deccan Chargers garnered enough interest in an IPL that was losing ground to the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

After two matches of sitting out since signing up for the new IPL 4 team, Ganguly finally took to the field against the Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, an announcement that even the Pune Warriors captain, Yuvraj Singh acknowledged as something that was anticipated, and almost as if to calm down the craziness surrounding it.

The IPL 4 has generally been a quiet affair and although those only inclined to the Twenty20 summer extravaganza are enjoying it, overall the IPL in its fourth season has seen a dent in viewership that is being attributed to several factors, including India's now famous victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Thereafter, the IPL 4 has sunk into a general average of hum drum, returning to life only when the likes of Chris Gayle decided to add cricket blitz to the affair.

In that light, the Sourav Ganguly story has allowed the tournament to milk the opportunity of his late entry, his anticipated play and his rivalry against his former team, the Kolkata Knight Riders. Although other teams have had several players who were reshuffled as a result of the IPL 4 auctions, the drama in the KKR den with Dada in it and now with Dada out of it, has allowed the IPL 4 a story that has kept cricketing interests in the news, apart from the daily dose of the IPL 4 results.

It will be an interesting accommodation that the Pune Warriors have made as Sourav Ganguly will hope to make his outing count for something for the team that is nearly scrapping the bottom of the IPL 4 points table tally.
