Few forgot last night in the aftermath of Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most number of Test runs touching 12000 that there was still a match going on. However, it was business as usual on the morning of the second day and credit must go to another stalwart of Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguy.

Few forgot last night in the aftermath of Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most number of Test runs touching 12000 that there was still a match going on. However, it was business as usual on the morning of the second day and credit must go to another stalwart of Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguy.

Sachin's record blinded most people to the fact that India had lost his wicket crucially in the final session when India made as many as 137 runs.

Ganguly, who kept company while Sachin went on to surpass Ganguly's record, was now left with the onus to take India through the morning session's play in the company of the nightwatchman Ishant Sharma.

But India's loss was just the wicket of Ishant as Sourav Ganguly took command of the situation and while his partnership of seventy-five with Mahendra Singh Dhoni had helped them score ninety runs in the morning session, Ganguly himself stands on the brink of glory.

Having gone past 7000 runs last night, and only the fourth India to do so, and being overshadowed by Sachin, Ganguly is now on the threshold of a century, one that says a lot about the current situation and the stoicness with which he stands.
