In a hard struggle, Amla's fifth ODI century this cricket season helped bail South Africa and take them to a match winning total. The weight of Amla's innings can be gauged by the fact that the next best score was that of JP Duminy at only twenty-six runs. Shoaib Akhtar was the wrecker in chief, picking three wickets in a miserly spell that added to the batting woes for South Africa.

Pakistan should have felt on a high, particularly after Abdul Razzaq helped the team win the second match with a century of his own. Chasing 229, Pakistan had an erratic batting approach that saw a couple of promising performances but also, casualties all round to pull off a convincing win.

Imran Farhat scored forty-seven runs up front before he was run out. Pakistan found themselves in trouble at five down for 121 in the thirty-fourth over after Asad Shafiq was run out as well for forty-three.

Pakistan seemed to have thrown it all away before Fawad Alam bonded with the tail and made fifty-nine runs that almost took Pakistan to the finish line before Morne Morkel came back to come the job, taking four wickets in the process as South Africa completed the nail biter.
