Sanath Jayasuriya dashed 157 runs off 157 balls with 24 boundaries and one six and Tilakaratne Dilshan cracked a fast century (117 from 79 balls). These two centuries provided Sri Lanka a world record after it opted to bat first winning the toss.

The visitors who four days back trashed England 5-0 in the ODI series reasserted their excellent batting performance in the European continent. Kumar Sangakkara pairing with Jayasuriya built a better platform for a huge total before he left the ground in 28th over when the score was 237. Then Jayasuriya and Dilshan went on rampage, dashed boundaries regularly.

South Africa held the record of scoring highest total against world champions Australia at the Wanderers. It heroically chased 434 runs set by Australia and produced 438 (losing nine wickets in 49.5 overs) to make the record.

In reply to Sri Lanka's 443, the hosts were bundled up in 248.
