Sri Lanka is in a commanding position in the third and final test against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. With 286 for seven in the second innings by the close of third day's play, the visitors had an overall lead of 288.

The host England is very likely to chase a tough target to save the match. Going by records at Trent Bridge, England had successfully chased 284 for six at this ground two years ago. Hence, England will require making the highest score ever to win a Trent Bridge Test. If England wins the test, the series will go down 2-0 for the host.
The flamboyant wicketkeeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara scored 66, skipper Mahela Jayawardene produced valuable 45 and the youngster Charmara Kapugedera playing in his second test made an unbeaten 50 for the first time to put Sri Lanka in a commanding position.
Earlier, England was packed up for 229 in reply to the visitor's 231 in the first innings.
