Some of the grand faces of Sri Lankan cricket have made it to the World Cup probables. Now it remains to be seen whether the selectors make it their final hurrah in the limited overs game.

Sri Lanka have named their ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 probables and while includes a generous sprinkling of the young guns that have either been making their mark or looking to leave one, Sri Lanka are not shunning the old gold that made them a force to reckon with in the first place.
Kumar Sangakkara will clearly be the captain of the Sri Lankan team irrespective of who else makes the final fifteen member squad for the World Cup to be staged in the Indian sub continent. However, he will have the word of the wise if the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas make it to the squad.
Jayasuriya left his mark not only as an all rounder but more importantly, as a bombastic batsman at the top of the order that fashioned Sri Lanka's gameplan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996, also staged in the Indian sub continent. Now he may have the final chance as does Chaminda Vaas, Sri Lanka's veteran left arm fast bowler who has been of great service to the team.
What though may work against them in the eventual pruning is the fact that neither has featured in the Sri Lankan cricket team over the past year and they may have to cool their heels even as Muttiah Muralitharan is expected to make the ranks in the fifteen member squad. Muralitharan retired from Test cricket recently after touching the 800 Test wicket mark but has openly expressed the desire that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 should be his swansong, a treat the selectors may be less inclined to turn down.
