Shah Rukh Khan has perhaps never courted the limelight in the midst of such angst. Even as he continues to state that his invitation to the Pakistan cricketers is only an extension of his hospitable Indian heritage, his movie, "My Name is Khan" or MNIK for short, has run into trouble with jittery multiplexes refusing to release his movie in Mumbai after the Shiv Sena shenanigans.

The reigning Bollywood actor is now paying a heavy price for stating what is essentially the word of any Indian that he is Indian first before he belongs to any state and that supporting the cause of any one neglected, in India or the world, should not bring into question one's patriotism. His words towards the Pakistan cricketers in the wake of the IPL 3 auction snub have ignited a storm.
But SRK's words has been used as a means of thrusting one party in the limelight, notoriously if need be. Even as the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, is promising police protection and encouraging movie goers to watch the movie, the increasing violent resorts of the Shiv Sena has halted advanced booking first and now has multiplexes shying away from their previous commitments to release the movie on Friday, the 12th of February, 2010.
Some are blaming the man behind the movie, Karan Johar, who has given unnecessary power to these rebellious forces when he personally apologised to Bal Thackeray's nephew, Raj Thackeray, even as the MNS took offense to the use of the word "Bombay" in the movie "Wake up Sid".
An anxious wait ensues tomorrow as the city lives on the edge.
