Andrew Flintoff has not looked too optimistic going into the fourth Test of the Ashes at Headingley in a day's time. But then, he has not the entire series or even his entire career riddled with injuries. But the decision to play him will rest with Strauss, not Flintoff.

Concerns were raised about Flintoff's growing knee aggravation after he was less conspicuous with the ball in hand in the third drawn Test at Edgbaston, with the Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, even trying to score a psychological point by stating that Flintoff appeared to be going "downhill" rather quickly.
But the England captain has stated that Flintoff's inclusion would not be made on sentiment but rather on his ability to be able to contribute over five days. Strauss stated that Flintoff would not be simply making the team just because he was going to retire at the end of the Ashes series. He would have to earn his spot, just like anyone else, with fitness.
