There was always talk the previous night of India batting a few more unnecessary overs for a few more unnecessary runs and perhaps denying themselves a chance for victory. The scenario was not much different from that feared as rain had the final say and India were denied a 2-0 victory, but not a series win.

With India 1-0 up in the series, there were those that argued that it did not matter that India declared a little later than perhaps they would have had they needed to push for victory. But India wanted the cushion of 600 runs (though against New Zealand, it appeared unwarranted) and if it meant for a few overs more, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was happy to oblige at the Basin Reserve in Wellington in the third and final Test of the series.
As India finished the match with a draw and two wickets proving New Zealand's saving grace, he stated he had no regrets as the series still belonged to India and given another chance, they would probably still have done the same thing. New Zealand would feel vindicated partially by the fact that there was umpiring bloopers, some swinging their way and others against them, like that of Tim Southee towards the end of what play there was on offer. India has slipped up in the field and the series victory may just overshadow the fact that they could still have won this match in the time that they had before them.
Ross Taylor and James Franklin continued the overnight defiance with a 142 run partnership. Like stated yesterday, hopes of salvaging the Test rest solely with Taylor and he responded with a century which in the end stood between New Zealand and going down 2-0.
Sachin Tendulkar returned with two wickets as well before rain made way after lunch and stayed put for the rest of the day, rendering cricket redundant for the day and India wrapping up their first series win in New Zealand in forty-one years!
