Tendulkar Wins None, KP All Amongst Aussie Mates

This may come as a shocker but perhaps it has something to do with the contemporary breed. Sachin Tendulkar did not find support amongst the Australian cricketers who appear to be gaga over Kevin Pietersen.

Tendulkar surprisingly did not win a single vote of the twenty-five Australian cricketers contracted. But rather it was the former England captain that won the battle by a fifty per cent margin and the only man who came close was Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara with thirty-four per cent votes. While Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis also merited mentioned, there was no place for the Indian batting great.

While there is no doubt that the Australian cricketers have a great deal of respect for Tendulkar, was seen present with his wife, Anjali Tendulkar, at the Centre Court in Wimbledon where Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick for his record fifteenth Grand Slam title to beat Pete Sampras’ fourteen, did not find admiration the way KP did. KP’s aggressive intent, his infectious attitude rubbing off on his mates and his style in general have captured the Australian cricketers, including Brett Lee, who believes KP can be a handful to bowl to when in full flow.

Andrew Flintoff is another player that the Australians are willing to show affinity for because he imbibes the same fearless spirit as KP and takes his aggression out in the right places and at the right time, when it matters most.
