Tong Grieg Thinks IPL Window is Ridiculous, India's Domination at ICC Needs to Be Checked

While contemporary international cricketers are calling for a window in the international cricket schedule for the Indian Premier League, former England captain, Tony Grieg, feels cricket is heading in the wrong direction and there are reasons why India should not be allowed to dominate at the ICC.

Grieg, an admirer of Indian cricket, believes there are a few things wrong with the sport, gunning for an IPL window being one of them. While cricketers such as Kumar Sangakkara and Daniel Vettori are raising their voice for making a case for an IPL window within the international cricket calendar so that the IPL does not clash with cricket series that do not allow players to play out their IPL contracts, Grieg is firmly against the idea.

According to Grieg, Indian domestic cricket should not be allowed to expand into actually becoming a fixture on the international cricket calendar. He feels that with the amount of cricket being played these days, blocking about two months of the cricket would impinge heavily on the bilateral Test series that would otherwise be staged in the period.

He is certainly not amused by the idea of having Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard playing in the IPL 4 season while the West Indies are hosting Pakistan. And he feels that should not be the case for international cricket anywhere.

Another area where Grieg is concerned is the growing weight of India, read:the BCCI, at the International Cricket Council, because although he does not spell it out, he is concerned that the cricket money accruing out of India and the deals done with some of the more easily influenced deals is swaying the votes in the ICC mandates in the favour of the ideas that the BCCI wants to prevail over.

In the two points that Grieg is raising, he is certainly raising certain relevant but also, controversial points and it will be interesting to see the reaction in the days to come.
