Tri Series ODI 1: New Zealand Hand India a 200 Run Defeat!

From being in a position of authority, India conceded initiative to two enterprising batsmen. And in the end, they duly paid the price for it, and for not dodging the dodgy bounce at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in the first match of the ODI tri series.

The humiliation could not have been more painful. After watching New Zealand rally their way back from three down for twenty-eight through the efforts of captain, Ross Taylor, and Scott Styris, the Indians failed to emulate. Worse still, they spiralled into a whirlpool of ignominy that could not reveal the positives.

The nature of the pitch, the floodlight conditions may have contributed but the lack of effort was only too evident as the Indian meekly submitted themselves to the chaos around them and what they ended up receiving was a bitter dose of defeat, losing by 200 runs chasing 288 for victory.

Leading the way for New Zealand was Daryll Tuffey who made it tough on the Indian batsmen who did little to fend away the disconcerting bounce. There was absolutely nothing to write home about the Indians as Tuffey had Kyle Mills for support in the wicket taking proposition, making it easy on Andy McKay and Jacob Oram to pin down the Indians. Once again the Indians were found woefully wanting on a pitch that offered bounce and despite knowing exactly what the conditions would be like having played the Asia Cup.

It was all over in less than thirty overs and it is funny or rather ironic when one considers that that could have been a statement about New Zealand rather early in the day.
