UAE Pitches: Coach, Captain Differ in Perspectives

The series has not seen a ball being bowled. But already it appears that the Pakistan captain and coach are sending across two different perspectives on playing n Dubai.

Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan coach, has had the opportunity to visit the venues ahead of the ODI series between Australia and Pakistan and has stated that the pitch conditions in Dubai are ideal and more akin to the pitches found in Pakistan.

He stated that Pakistan would enjoy home advantage because of the conditions and with the ingredients for the pitch coming primarily from the soil in Pakistan, Pakistan would hold the upper hand.

However, Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, was quick to refute the home advantage argument. He stated that one day cricket did not see such a huge advantage when it came to preparing pitches and that his team would not benefit any more significantly from the conditions than Australia would.

He reiterated the point that if the team played badly, the pitch would not even be a factor and therefore, nullifying the home advantage theory. He wants his team to raise the level of their game and he feels that is Pakistan's best chance of winning against Pakistan.

At the moment, the Pakistan team is talking the loudest. But can they convert positive, sensible talk into performance?
